  • :framed_picture: Only upload higher resolutions if it adds value to your topic. (I recommend a width of 2000px for large images and around 1000px if zooming in does not really add value.)
  • :glowing_star: Prefer subject-based images with blurry backgrounds, as these will compress much better.
  • :toolbox: Compress your images with Compressor.io before converting them to AVIF.

Requirements:

  • :counterclockwise_arrows_button: AVIF format.
  • :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Max resolution: True 4K or 11 Megapixels.
  • :open_file_folder: 100KB maximum file size.

AVIF provides superior sharpness, vibrant colors, full HDR support, and advanced compression that significantly reduces file sizes. For sharing medium to large-sized images, AVIF is the way to go!

If you’re unable to convert images to AVIF on your computer, you can use online services like Convertio.

AVIF compression is so efficient that images can be just a few KBs in size! The 100KB file size requirement may seem tight, but if you compress to AVIF, this threshold is very achievable. AVIF compression works especially well for subject-based images with blurry backgrounds, so keep that in mind when uploading!

I’m glad I found this topic because you had mentioned that to me in our sword conversation. I understand it now. I will do that in the future if need be. I’m also into photography. I like taking pictures of nature and wildlife but, I’m I novice with an older used Canon power shot. I’m curious what my photos will look like in AVIF. I will definitely try it. Better pictures and less data. Makes perfect sense .

Hello Rik! Yes, AVIF is a game changer if you want to store graded images. I recommend getting a local tool instead of the online services. AVIF will slowly become standard over the next few years. For now, only the newest CPUs support it, so for older computers, the encoding process might take a while.
